The cyber awareness wheel of pain

At mindshift we are out and about talking to lots of people about cyber awareness. One idea that often comes up is that “people are the weakest link”. It’s a self-perpetuating idea, because we’ve spent the last 20-30 years ploughing money into technology and ignoring people. While there were heaps of vulnerabilities at the network and application layers, people didn’t seem to be such a problem. Now that those layers are better protected – because that’s where we’ve been spending – people have become targets. And just like we upped the game to defend networks then apps, now we need to think creatively to help people. Those that do will get into a virtuous circle of more engaged staff and more effective cyber security. Those that don’t will have missed an opportunity to get ahead!
